Florida's ONLY
Pet Business Summit!
2026
August 13-15th, 2026 | Jacksonville, Florida
Florida Pet Services Association
FPSA is proud to be an official 501(c)3 non-profit on the mission of promoting professionalism, providing elite education and creating and connecting professional relationships in the pet industry in the state of Florida.
We saw a need for Florida based pet companies to become an association - to vibe off of each other, support each other, learn from each other + most importantly create a community of those who TRULY understand how cool + weird Florida weather, humans + pets needs can be!
While all are welcome, this association will focus on existing businesses that are experienced and do not necessarily need the building blocks, but rather those extra layers and customization to make you truly unique.

Michelle Kline
Over the course of the next year, Michelle revised her entire business, discontinuing overnight care and niching to dog walking only. Between May 2020 and May 2021, Michelle doubled the size of the business, doubled profit margins, and tripled the size of the team, all while reducing hours of service and building an on-demand daily dog walking model. Michelle decided to sell her business of 25 staff and 600 clients to new owners in 2023, so that she could focus on building DogCo Launch.
Michelle founded DogCo Launch to meet an unfulfilled need she saw in the pet care industry: real business education that prioritizes the owner’s well-being and provides tools and resources to support sustainable growth. Now, three years into her business venture, she's worked with over 200 team-based companies in the pet care industry to help them grow, scale, and thrive.
The Scaling Framework: What Got You Here Won’t Get You There
In this presentation, I'd be walking through strategic shifts that business owners must make in their relationships to their businesses in order to continue to grow and scale through different revenue points and team-sizes. I'll discuss the transition of elevating from working deeply within your business to working on your business, and identify key areas that owners can get stuck through their growth.
10:15-11:15am
Shannon Hendon + Grace Taylor
Shannon is the owner of Ocala Pet Sitting in Ocala, Florida, with nearly two decades of experience building systems, training teams, and educating clients around intentional, cat-centered care. She is passionate about helping pet sitters attract the right cat clients by improving the experience they and their cat sitting teams provide.
Grace is the founder of Furever Friends Cat Sitting in Baltimore, Maryland, a cat-only company with a team of 19 sitters. A Fear Free focused professional and foster to over 200 cats, she brings a systems-driven, behavior-aware approach shaped by both professional and personal experience
. Together, Shannon and Grace created Built for Cats to support pet sitters who want to attract better-fit clients, strengthen their teams, and provide thoughtful, intentional care that truly puts cats first.
Built for Cats: Attracting Premium Cat Clients, Building Better Teams, and Elevating Cat Care
Built for Cats is a practical, eye-opening session designed to help professional pet sitters attract higher-end cat clients, strengthen their internal systems, and deepen their understanding of cat behavior. Many pet sitters underestimate how much time, observation, and structure cats truly need when their owners are away. This session reframes cat sitting as a premium, intentional service that requires clear systems, confident communication, and a deeper awareness of feline behavior. Attendees will learn how high-end cat clients think and choose care providers, how strong internal systems create trust and consistency for both clients and teams, and why cats need more time and attention than many sitters realize. Grace Taylor and Shannon Hendon will share real-world insights from years of professional cat-only care, team leadership, and client education, offering actionable takeaways attendees can apply immediately to their own businesses. This session is ideal for pet sitters who want to raise their standards, attract better-fit cat clients, and provide cat care that truly meets the emotional and physical needs of cats.

No Money, No Problem
Working at a nonprofit means working on a shoestring, or sometimes non-exists, budget - especially when it comes to marketing. At the Jacksonville Humane Society, for the last 13 years, we've developed a strategy of "free" techniques to help you capitalize on your current relationships to find new customers. In this session, I'll share 5 tips and tricks to help both new and experienced participants grow their reach.
11:30am-12:00pm
Carla McClellan
Carla is known for blending strong systems with human-centered leadership, proving that pet care businesses don’t have to choose between structure and heart. She has successfully positioned a local pet care company to stand out against national gig-based apps by focusing on trust, clear communication, and exceptional client experience.
Speaking from real-world experience, Carla helps pet care professionals strengthen their brand, attract higher-quality clients, and grow sustainably—without competing on price or burning out. Her approach is practical, honest, and grounded in the belief that a well-built business should support both the clients and the people running it.
Competing With the Apps: How Local Pet Care Businesses Win on Trust
National pet care apps dominate search results—but they don’t have to dominate your market. In this session, Carla McClellan shares how independent pet care businesses can successfully compete with gig-based platforms by focusing on trust, professionalism, and intentional branding. Drawing from real-world experience running a team-based local pet care company, Carla explores how clear positioning, thoughtful client experience, and strong communication attract higher-quality clients—without competing on price. Attendees will leave with practical strategies to clarify their value, strengthen credibility, and build a brand clients choose on purpose.

Running a Pet Business Without Getting Bitten: Contracts & Liability 101
Choosing the Right Business “Leash”. Sole proprietor vs. LLC vs. corporation — what each structure really does (and doesn’t) protect you from, and why most pet professionals eventually outgrow going it alone. General liability, bonding, care-custody-and-control coverage, and how insurance and your business entity work together to create a real liability shield.
The Contract Is Your First Line of Defense. Why handshake deals fail in pet care, and how a written agreement sets expectations, prevents disputes, and protects you when something goes wrong.
Must-Have Contract Terms for Pet Professionals. Key provisions every pet sitting and walking contract should include: scope of services, emergency authority, liability limitations, indemnification, payment terms, cancellations, and dispute resolution. Running a Professional Business Without Getting Bitten
Common legal mistakes pet sitters and walkers make — and simple steps you can take now to protect yourself, your clients, and the animals you care for.
